It's a surfactant that removes grease and dirt from hair. They are highly detergent and lather abundantly.
Their main drawback is that they are very drying for the scalp and unsuitable for color-treated or highlighted hair. Color washes out over time and ends become split and damaged.
How do you make the transition to sulfate-free natural shampoo?
Switching to more natural, sulfate- and silicone-free shampoos will do your hair and scalp a world of good. Rinsing will feel less slippery, almost crunchy, but healthier and cleaner. This is a good sign: your hair will gradually shed its silicone sheath, and your scalp will regrease less quickly and be less aggressive. The transition may take time to recover your original hair type, but your hair will love it. If, at the same time, you provide your hair with clean, natural care.
