Dehydrated skin is a skin condition in which the skin lacks water, yet can continue to produce sebum (oil). This means that skin dehydration is different from skin type (oily, dry, combination), which is linked to sebum production. The causes of skin dehydration can be multiple, including:
- Environmental factors: Exposure to extreme weather conditions, such as wind, sun, cold, dry air or pollution, can lead to skin dehydration.
- Poor skincare routine: Using aggressive skincare products, stripping cleansers or unsuitable products can damage the skin barrier and lead to moisture loss.
- Lifestyle habits : An unbalanced diet, insufficient water consumption and smoking can also contribute to skin dehydration.
Signs of dehydrated skin may include:
- Sensation of tightness and discomfort on the skin.
- Dull appearance and lack of shine.
- More visible fine lines and wrinkles.
