All the advice you need to prepare your skin for Summer Glow!

Ever since Yodi was founded, Hélène Azancot has been keen to link expertise and well-being. As a result, numerous meetings are organized with experts from all horizons: naturopaths, authors, designers... The aim of these exchanges is to forge links between enthusiasts who share the values of transparency, naturalness and sustainability, with a view to a healthier future.

To share these inspiring exchanges with as many people as possible, Hélène decided to hold them as close as possible to her customers, in the Yodi boutique at 27 avenue Victor Hugo in the 16th arrondissement of Paris.

On May 16, Hélène met Eliane Tordjmann, an exceptional personality, expert and full of energy, in the presence of an audience highly committed to holistic beauty and very friendly.

This Master class was very enriching and we wanted to share the essential points with you. Eliane revealed her tips for top skin and energy this summer. Diet, dietary supplements and beauty products were discussed, with lots of advice and answers to questions from the audience.

Here is a summary of the Master Class:

Presentation by Eliane Tordjmann, naturopathic expert

Eliane is a naturopathic practitioner of healthy living. For many years now, she's been an expert at providing a holistic vision of naturopathy. And it's quite unique! Eliane embodies a holistic approach to the individual, focusing on the "inside out". She also offers personalized interviews and conferences, and works closely with doctors on an ongoing basis. She is devoted to her community and offers products that she considers necessary and good for health. You can find all her tips and advice for healthy living and maintaining your "Glow" on her page @thefrenchyglow!

The naturopathic profession: a multi-pillar science

Eliane began this Master Class by describing her profession as a naturopath.
Naturopaths work on four pillars - Eliane always adds a fifth:
- Nutrition - the main pillar
- Sleep - very important against stress, snacking. It is the basis of beauty.
- Stress management - it's important to know how to manage stress, and today there are many ways to do so. The best according to Eliane: Magnesium!
- Physical activity - do it REGULARLY. Find a sport that suits you, with varying degrees of cardio/violence (running, brisk walking, yoga, barre...). 2 or even 3 times a week is fine, as long as it lasts throughout the year!
- Eliane's + 1: Food supplements - it's essential to supplement with Vitamin D and Magnesium! Without thinking, without needing a doctor, you can supplement your diet. Everyday essentials: Vitamin D and Magnesium.

To complete this balance, the last but not least point is self-care! Adopting a good beauty routine to take care of yourself is essential. That's what the Inside Out philosophy is all about! Take time for yourself and pamper yourself to maximize your well-being! Later in this article, we'll take a look at some of Yodi's natural routines to help you look your best and prepare your skin for summer!

What should you eat to prepare your skin for summer?

There are three types of super-important foods to prepare the skin for summer, Eliane explains which ones:

What fruits and vegetables should you choose to prepare for summer?

    • Foods rich in carotenoids: beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene - in short, red foods! Carrots, apricots, mangoes, sweet potatoes... These are very important because they boost melanin and stimulate it for a beautiful tan. A big fan of juices, Eliane explains that they allow you to have large quantities and consume these carotenoid-rich fruits and vegetables throughout the day! The best way to start the day is with a fresh juice, which will provide you with a concentrate of antioxidants and beta-carotene!

    •  Antioxidant foods, the best-seller: vitamin C! Citrus fruits, red berries, watercress, spinach - we can't get enough! Our cells are constantly destabilized by free radicals, but we'd need a whole article on that. Antioxidants help rebalance them. Vitamin C is the most common and accessible, and is found in large quantities in oranges. But beware of squeezed orange juice, as it contains far too much sugar! A pure orange is much better. Red fruits such as raspberries, blackcurrants, blueberries and strawberries are also rich in vitamin C. But beware of cherries, which are very low in vitamin C. But beware of cherries, which are full of sugar.

    • Moisturizing foods: cucumber, watermelon, melon, celery, all these fruits and vegetables will keep you hydrated all summer long, but check the sugar content to make sure you don't overdo it... We can't stress enough how important hydration is! Eliane recommends a homemade celery juice, to be taken 3-4 mornings a week. It's the first thing you take when you wake up! Combined with lemon and/or parsley, celery juice has nothing but qualities: anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, depurative, cleansing, moisturizing and much more!

Should you choose fruit over vegetables?

Generally speaking, it's important to remember that vegetables are essential. When we talk about "fruit and vegetables", we mean 80% vegetables and 20% fruit. So avoid fruit meals, because even if it's "good sugar", it's still sugar!

Do omega-3s play a role in preparing skin for the sun?

Often overlooked, Omega 3s are super-important when it comes to preparing for summer! They are essential for the brain, cardiovascular system, skin, purification, hydration... Everyone is deficient in Omega 3! Visible symptoms include dry skin, acute fatigue and, quite simply, poor diet!

What form should omega-3s be consumed in?

Omega-3s are present in several forms:

    - Vegetable

From oils: linseed, rapeseed, hemp, camelina. You need to take at least one or two spoonfuls every day, either directly or mixed in your vinaigrette with olive oil (rich in Omega 9, but no one's short of that!). But never cook Omega 3 oils! Always store these oils in the fridge, in dark bottles, for example. Flaxseed oil keeps for three weeks maximum...

Ground linseeds: caution, they are not recommended for people who have had hormone-dependent cancer, as they are phytoestrogens.

Chia seeds: ideal for breakfast! We make a pudding, prepare it the day before and put it in the fridge: almond milk, chia seeds, a little cinnamon. In the morning, add a few red berries and you've got a great start to the day!

Oilseeds: walnuts, almonds... They're sources of Omega 3! A small handful a day is just the thing to give you everything you need.

    - Marine

Omega-3 is found in small oily fish (sardines, mackerel, etc.), salmon and herring. You should eat oily fish once a week, and salmon once a week. If this really doesn't seem possible, you need to supplement your diet! One or two cures a year is enough, but watch out for heavy metals!

The final dietary pillar of skin preparation: proteins!

Proteins are amino acids that make up our skeleton, form our muscles and, above all, produce collagen, the basis of our skin. Protein is therefore very important and has several origins:

    Animal: meat, fish, seafood

Eggs and cheeses (Eliane differentiates them from the rest)

Plant-based: but beware, a plant-based protein is not complete! It does not contain the 8 amino acids required for collagen formation. You need to supplement them with more complete seeds: quinoa, buckwheat, tofu and, above all, spirulina (the best! Available in tablet, powder or twig form).

    In a nutshell:

Diet plays a key role in preparing skin for the sun. You need to eat a little of all three categories (fruit and vegetables, Omega 3 and proteins) to be at your best and well prepared for summer! But it's not just diet that helps prepare the skin...

What beauty routine should you adopt to prepare your skin for summer?

Eliane explained the dietary aspects of preparing skin for the sun, but now it's time for beauty and self-care! Indeed, this is an Inside Out philosophy!

What routine should you follow to prepare your facial skin?

Gentle, enzymatic exfoliation is essential for skin glow!
Do not use harsh, coarse-grained scrubs. Particularly on the fragile skin of the face. They remove the surface elements of the skin that protect it from the sun - the very opposite of the desired effect!
So opt for gentle cleansers or enzymatic exfoliants! They remove what's necessary while respecting and protecting the skin. Once the skin has been exfoliated, it needs to be deeply nourished to strengthen it against the sun!

It's important to cleanse the skin thoroughly and gently. Start with an oil, which removes make-up and grease (grease drives out grease!), then continue with a cleanser to finish off. We always start by removing make-up to cleanse the skin thoroughly. Once a day is enough, but to each his own! It's also important to listen to yourself and follow your choices, because that's what's most effective, in terms of both skincare and diet. So if you prefer to wash your face twice a day, do it! As long as things are done right, anything's possible! The skin is more active at night, regenerating itself and renewing its cells. So we give our skin a good treatment before going to bed, cleanse it thoroughly and the next morning we can freshen up without needing to wash our face thoroughly.

    Yodi's tips:

For the cleanser, we suggest our best-seller, the natural powder cleanser rich in Vitamin C! This 100% natural cleanser will gently cleanse your face while bringing radiance to your skin thanks to hibiscus flower AHAs that will bring that very gentle enzymatic exfoliation ! Which exfoliation is best for the body?

Eliminating dead cells, activating circulation and awakening the skin's radiance and energy - that's the aim of dry brushing, performed on dry skin before a shower. It's the same principle as a body scrub. There are many on the market, so choose the most natural ones possible and treat yourself!
They remove what's necessary while respecting and protecting the skin. Once the skin has been exfoliated, it needs to be deeply nourished to strengthen it against the sun!

    Yodi's tips:

Our exfoliating superfatted soaps with upcycled coffee grounds and coffee oil or almond milk! The equivalent of espresso coffee or body cream!
To prepare your skin properly, we suggest a three-soap routine. Start by cleansing and nourishing your skin with Sensitive Karité soap. Then, once or twice a week, use one of our exfoliating superfatted soaps for softer, more radiant skin. For gentle exfoliation, choose Latte Scrub; for more intense exfoliation, choose Café Scrub.
