Summer guide for your hair

Ah, summer's a dream come true... the heat, the sun, the cocktails, the beach... we love it all! However, it's not the most tender season for our hair. That's why it's important to be well-prepared for the arrival of fine weather, so you don't end up with hair as dry as straw. But what routine should you adopt? Here's our summer guide to answer all your questions.

How do you take care of your hair in summer?

Straighteners, curlers, blow-dryers... All year round, our hair has a tough time of it! So in summer, we often take the opportunity to give our scalps a rest. But contrary to what you might think, just because we're on vacation doesn't mean we shouldn't continue to protect our hair, especially from the sun.

Rule 1: Protect your scalp from the sun

First and foremost, it's important to cover your head during prolonged exposure to the sun. What's more, while hair tends to fall out more abundantly in autumn, it should be remembered that this can be exacerbated by summertime carelessness.

Rule 2: Use the right shampoo and rinse hair thoroughly

As you know, chlorine in swimming pool water, the sea and the sun can dry out and lighten hair.

Pool water swells the hair fiber and opens the hair scales, facilitating the escape of color pigments. This is why your hair color tends to become duller with repeated swimming. Chlorine tends to strip and sometimes tint natural blond, bleached, highlighted or swept-back hair with an ugly greenish sheen.

The sea, sand and sun dry out the hair and make the scalp sensitive. What's more, color-treated hair can be even more sensitive, depending on its type.

Color fades, hair loss, straw effect... To avoid all these little inconveniences, we recommend using natural shampoos that protect your hair and nourish it deep down. In the evening, it's important to rinse your hair thoroughly. Without this precaution, salt sticks to the epidermis of the scalp and cancels out the benefits of seawater.

What are the must-have products for your bathroom this summer?

We can't stress this enough: it's essential to wash your hair with a shampoo that's adapted to your needs. Forget shampoos that are too nourishing for oily hair, or those for normal hair when your hair needs hydration or nutrition.

Our Nutritive Argan shampoo enriched with prebiotics is ideal for dry, damaged or color-treated hair. Thanks to the 100% natural active ingredients it contains, such as Argan Oil, Aloe Vera and Pea Protein, it helps preserve your color, protect your scalp and deeply nourish your hair fiber.

For split-ends and fine hair in need of volume, our Douceur de lait d'Amande shampoo is perfect for caring for your scalp. Thanks to the sweet almond milk it contains, known for its moisturizing and softening properties, it will give your hair lightness, softness and hydration.

How to protect greasy hair from the sun?

High temperatures boost the activity of the sebaceous glands responsible for your greasy hair. As a result, your roots tend to re-grease faster in summer. Added to this is perspiration, which causes sebum to slide down the hair fiber.

So how do you go about it? Nothing could be simpler: wear a hat. It protects your scalp from overheating on sunny days. The sea can also be your hair thalasso. In summer, it's the best ally for oily hair. Seawater, salt and plankton purify and tone the scalp. So take advantage of your swims to wet your hair and take advantage of its benefits. Here are a few simple steps you can take to ensure that your hair problems take a vacation too:

  • During the bath, let the seawater soak your hair and scalp;
  • Massage the scalp, placing fingertips slightly apart on the scalp and pressing firmly. The principle is to slide the skin of the scalp along the skull.

Back on the beach, your hair will be healthier and lighter. In the evening, rinse your hair thoroughly with clear water to rid the epidermis of salt, which could stick to the scalp and cancel out the conditioning effect of this sea bath. After shampooing, apply a light, natural conditioner to rehydrate without weighing hair down, and to avoid the straw effect.

How to choose a biodegradable shampoo?

Turning to more natural products also means questioning our own consumption, to improve it for ourselves, our loved ones, the environment and future generations. Washing hair naturally means washing it better and less often. The same goes for shampoos and hair care products in general. Chemical ranges have reduced us to using numerous products for our hair. Products that wouldn't even need to be used if our hair wasn't exposed to these unsuitable substances in the first place.

Our sulfate- and silicone-free shampoos are designed to restore balance to your scalp, caring for it with the simplest yet most effective routine possible. And healthy hair is hair that breathes, that is left to rest. To achieve this, it's essential to stop washing your hair too often.

Eco-responsible packaging

What better time than the vacations to reconnect with nature and take care of the environment? At Yodi, our products contain only active ingredients that are 100% natural and biodegradable. Our aim? To use as few ingredients as possible for maximum effectiveness.

And thanks to their infinitely recyclable aluminum packaging, our products are part of an eco-responsible approach. And that's not all! Our service capsules are made of PP and can be upcycled: so as soon as your bottle is empty, let us know and we'll send you a slip so you can send them back to us. As for our labels, they're compostable, since they're made from wood cellulose.

A natural shampoo for every hair type

I have an irritated or sensitive scalp

Our Douceur de Lait d'Amande irritated scalp shampoo is for you. Preservative-free, it contains gentle, non-irritating surfactants. We have tracked allergens, including in the fragrance, which is of natural origin and free of listed allergens.

To protect the scalp microbiome, which needs to be pampered just like your skin, our shampoo powder contains a prebiotic, which is food in the form of sugar to help and strengthen the scalp microbiota. After just a few uses, you should notice a marked improvement in itchiness.

In the case of severe eczema, it is of course advisable to see your dermatologist.

I have color-treated hair

So you need a shampoo that respects their shade. You need very gentle cleansing agents specifically formulated not to dull the color, and antioxidants to prevent the sun from denaturing it. Our Nutritive Argan shampoo will be your best friend this summer. Enriched with Argan oil and Aloe Vera, it protects both hair fiber and color.

My hair is greasy and lacks volume

The good news is that powders have absorbing and regulating properties. We recommend our Douceur de lait d'Amande shampoo. With Yodi, the active ingredients are right in your hand, not drowned in water, to gently cleanse and purify your scalp and hair.

Our expert advice: If you have oily roots and dry ends, combine Nutritive Argan shampoo with a natural purifying treatment to be applied before shampooing. In this way, you care for your lengths without greasing your roots, and your hair stays soft and light.

I have dry, curly or frizzy hair

In general, the mistake is to focus on skincare, forgetting that shampoo is the essential first step. If it's ill-adapted, too stripping, too drying or, on the contrary, too greasy, no care product will change their texture, or only temporarily.

Damaged hair is hair whose scales have opened up at the ends, you have to cut it all the time, and the damage comes back... Thanks to a unique combination of organic Aloe vera, organic Argan oil and pea protein, the best shampoo is Nutritive Argan, which acts like a gentle detox. After shampooing, a good natural silicone-free conditioner will enable you to transform your hair as you use it.

What haircut for this summer?

With the arrival of summer, it's time to freshen up your cut, especially if your hair is already dry and brittle, so you can get off to a good start. In summer, we often feel like changing our look, lightening the mass and trimming the ends.

Healthy hair starts with healthy roots. Do you have dry, split ends? Don't wait any longer to make an appointment with your hairdresser and get rid of ALL the damage. In fact, if your split ends go back several centimetres, they need to be completely removed, otherwise the hair will continue to crack until it breaks. Cutting your hair in this way not only restores its strength, but also its volume. Once the diseased lengths have been removed, your hair is immediately softer, thicker and shinier, rather than longer.

You should know that healthy hair needs to be cut at least once every three months. You don't need to remove dozens of centimetres every time, but just enough to refresh the cut and give your hair a new shape.

Why does hair fall out after summer?

Hair loss is often most noticeable in autumn. This is triggered by a peak in hair growth in July to protect against UV rays. If you notice that you start losing your hair at the end of summer, don't panic!

Losing a little hair every day is normal: between 50 and 100 hairs fall from our heads every day.

In fact, there's a life cycle for hair: it first goes through an anagen phase (growth), which lasts between 2 and 5 years for men and 5 to 7 years for women. Then comes the catagen phase, which lasts 3 weeks. The hair stops growing because the hair follicle that surrounds and nourishes the hair root is no longer active. Finally, during the telogen phase, hair in the growth stage gradually pushes towards the surface of the scalp. Dead hair is replaced by new hair. This phase lasts 1 to 3 months.

On the other hand, hair loss can sometimes accelerate and is no longer compensated by proportional regrowth. This is known as alopecia, as the hair becomes abnormally thin. The treatment of alopecia is first and foremost that of its cause. If the cause is hormonal, an appropriate assessment and therapy will be proposed. Start by seeing a dermatologist, who can advise you on the best course of action.

Now you're ready to face the sun, the beach, the pool and the heat with complete peace of mind! If you have any other tips, don't hesitate to share them with us in DM on our Instagram account @yodibeauty, we'll be delighted to chat with you!
