How about saving water?

13 October 2022

Did you know that?

Water covers 70% of the world's surface : 97.2% of the water is in salt form in the seas and oceans and 2.8% is fresh water (2.1% in ice form and 0.7% in liquid form).

According to theWorld Health Organization (WHO) andUNICEF (2017) joint report:

  • 2.2 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water services.
  • 4.2 billion people lack sanitation services.

Our water consumption

Water is the main constituent of the human body. A adult man is made up of about 65% water, or 45 liters. Water ensures multiple functions: it irrigates the tissues, allows digestion by dissolving food, ensures the thermal balance of the body, allows the evacuation of waste...

An average person loses 2 liters of water per day:

  • 0.5 liter by transpiration and perspiration (diffusion of water vapor through the epidermis),
  • 0.5 liter per breath,
  • 1 liter by the urine.

To compensate for these daily water losses, humans must absorb an average of 2 liters of water per day. In total, to drink and satisfy his hygiene needs (cooking, washing...), each person needs 20 to 50 liters of water per day.

Agriculture accounts for 70% of water withdrawals and is the largest consumer due to irrigation, plantations and crops that are constantly increasing. Industries use 20% of water resources, mainly for manufacturing processes. And 10% is for domestic consumption.

Did you know that?

Several thousand liters of water are needed to produce a shampoo. Water is not only used to manufacture the product, but also in the manufacturing process, rinsing and cleaning of the machines. This water must be treated and purified and then stored in the factories.

The future of water

An ever-growing population, an agricultural and industrial sector that consumes more and more water... All these reasons explain an increase in water needs. Added to this is global warming, which is causing an increase in water stress (higher evaporation, lower water tables, drying up of the soil).

A real awareness is thus necessary on behalf of everyone: a better management of resources, more water-saving irrigation techniques, less polluting manufacturing processes, efforts from each household...

10 tips to reduce your daily water consumption

  1. Take showers instead of baths
  2. Do not leave the water running unnecessarily while washing dishes, showering or brushing your teeth.
  3. Equip your faucets with a water saver
  4. Use the dishwasher only when it is full (same for the washing machine)
  5. Favour class A (low consumption) household appliances
  6. Check the condition of your faucets to avoid leaks
  7. Choose plants that require less water
  8. Use a drip sprinkler for your plants
  9. Favour steam cooking
  10. Recover water from washing or cooking vegetables to water plants

Yodi awareness

Water makes up the majority of the mass of almost all cosmetic products. It is used for its sensory dimension in order to obtain formulas that are pleasant to use with a sensation of freshness.

In emulsions, it is mainly used as a solvent to solubilize the active ingredients and represents the water phase. However, water has no moisturizing properties in itself, it has no particular action on the skin and it does not penetrate it. It is in fact its association with humectant and moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid as well as with the fatty substances contained in the fatty phase of the emulsions which will contribute to reconstitute the hydrolipidic barrier of the skin, but in no case the water.

In shampoos and liquid cleansers, water is present at more than 80%. So for a shampoo of 250 ml = 200 ml of water

In France, 174 million liquid shampoos are sold each year, which means a total of 34,800 tons of water, plus the water used in the manufacturing process.

At Yodi, we have made the decision to develop products without water !

They transform with the water used in the shower or in front of the sink. Why is this better? Because we avoid wasting water. Water that has to be purified, stored in factories, and transported to the merchant and then to the consumer.

Indeed, when a formula contains water, it is necessary to add preservatives to protect it, emulsifiers for the texture, additives...

In addition, Yodi products do not contain controversial ingredients, listed allergens, animal ingredients, silicones and sulfates.

Will you reduce your water consumption and adopt Yodi products?
