How about saving water?

October 13, 2022

Did you know?

Water covers 70% of the earth's surface : 97.2% of water is in salt form in the seas and oceans, and 2.8% is freshwater (2.1% in ice form and 0.7% in liquid form).

According to the joint report by theWorld Health Organization (WHO) andUNICEF (2017):

  • 2.2 billion people have no access to drinking water.
  • 4.2 billion people lack sanitation services.

Our water consumption

Water is the main constituent of the human body. A adult male is made up of around 65% water, or 45 liters. Water performs multiple functions: it irrigates tissues, enables digestion by dissolving food, ensures the body's thermal equilibrium, enables the evacuation of waste...

The average person loses 2 liters of water per day:

  • 0.5 liters through perspiration (diffusion of water vapor through the epidermis),
  • 0.5 liters per breath,
  • 1 liter through urine.

To compensate for these daily water losses, humans need to absorb an average of 2 liters of water per day. In total, to drink and satisfy hygiene needs (cooking, washing, personal hygiene, etc.), each person needs between 20 and 50 liters of water a day.

Agriculture accounts for 70% of water withdrawals, and is the biggest consumer, due to irrigation, plantations and ever-growing crops. Industry uses 20% of water resources, mainly for manufacturing processes. A further 10% is used for domestic consumption.

Did you know?

It takes several thousand liters of water to produce a shampoo. Water is not only used to make the product, but also in the manufacturing process, and for rinsing and cleaning machines. This water has to be treated and purified, then stored in factories.

The future of water

An ever-growing population, an increasingly water-hungry agricultural and industrial sector... these are just some of the reasons for the growing need for water. Added to this is global warming, which is exacerbating water stress (higher evaporation, lower water tables, drying up of soils).

We all need to become more aware of the issue: better resource management, more water-efficient irrigation techniques, less polluting manufacturing processes, efforts on the part of every household...

10 tips for reducing daily water consumption

  1. Take showers instead of baths
  2. Don't let the water run unnecessarily while washing dishes, showering or brushing your teeth.
  3. Fit your taps with water-saving devices
  4. Use the dishwasher only when it is full (same for the washing machine).
  5. Prefer class A (low consumption) household appliances
  6. Check the condition of your taps to avoid leaks
  7. Choose plants that consume less water
  8. Use a drip sprinkler for your plants
  9. Favour steam cooking
  10. Recover water from washing or cooking vegetables to water plants

Yodi awareness

Water makes up the majority of the mass of almost all cosmetic products. It is used for its sensorial dimension, to obtain formulas that are pleasant to use and give a sensation of freshness.

In emulsions, it is mainly used as a solvent to solubilize the active ingredients and represents the aqueous phase. However, water has no moisturizing properties of its own, has no particular action on the skin, and does not penetrate it. In fact, it is the combination of water with humectant and moisturizing ingredients such as glycerine and hyaluronic acid, as well as with the fats contained in the fatty phase of emulsions, that will help restore the skin's hydrolipidic barrier, but not water.

In liquid shampoos and cleansers, more than 80% is water. For a shampoo,250 ml = 200 ml of water

In France, 174 million liquid shampoos are sold every year, representing a total of 34,800 tonnes of water, plus the water used in the manufacturing process.

At Yodi, we have decided to make water-free products !

They are transformed with the water used in the shower or in front of the sink. Why is this better? Because we avoid wasting water. Water that has to be purified, stored in factories, transported to the retailer and then to the consumer.

When a formula contains water, preservatives must be added for protection, emulsifiers for texture, additives...

What's more, Yodi products contain no controversial ingredients, no listed allergens, no ingredients of animal origin, and no silicones or sulfates.

Will you reduce your water consumption and switch to Yodi products?
